What Women Want: Co-Creation of a Lifestyle Intervention for Women after 40
Saturday 16 August 10:00am – 12:00 pm

Are you a woman aged 40 and over, currently going through menopause or navigating a lifestyle after it?
We’re inviting women like you to join an open session where your voice, experiences, and ideas will shape a new research project on improving lifestyle and physical activity in midlife and beyond.
This isn’t a lecture. It’s a conversation—and we’d like you to be a co-creator.
If you would like to help further, this is what you can expect to share and hear:
- What helps or stops women from being active during or after menopause?
- What kind of support or programs would feel realistic and doable?
- How do cultural, emotional, and physical changes affect motivation and daily routines?
- What do you want in a lifestyle program designed for women like you?
- Your insights will directly guide the design of a research project that truly reflects women’s needs, priorities, and lived realities.
- Ideas on community engagement and recruitment.
Venue: University of Auckland, Te Papa Ako o Tai Tonga – Student Hub
6 Osterley Way, Room 102, Auckland, Auckland 2104
There will be an informal networking lunch and small value travel and supermarket voucher as contribution for your time and travel. Please contact rebecca.meiring@auckland.ac.nz for further information.
Recent event update: Let’s Talk About Ageism – Panel Discussion June 2025

Thank you to everyone who came and contributed to this our inaugural
‘Let’s Talk About’ discussion
Thanks to everyone who attended and contributed enthusiastically to our discussion about Ageism. Feedback from our audience was that they appreciated the diversity of topics and panellists.
The presentations by our experts covered a wide range of topics, including Ageism in sport and recreation and the strategies we can employ to promote intergenerational participation in physical activities. Societal perspectives on Ageism, Ageism in Te Ao Māori – does it exist? and Ageism in aged care.
Some key themes emerged from our audience about the key opportunities and challenges for society with an ageing population:
- Ageism /Societal Change – Need to address biases and behaviours, our attitudes and beliefs
- Health and healthcare – Encouraging and providing opportunities to stay physically healthy and functioning, as well as mental health – connection – (poverty and isolation in older people)
- Homecare alternatives to residential care
- Ageism in the workforce
- Future problems for NZ …poverty, workforce ageism
- Funding and financial issues – lack of funding to implement change or support aged care
- Intergenerational solutions – more young people working in aged care support.
Special thanks to all our expert panellists, contributors and supporters on the day with particular mention to:
